An initiative inspired by Nature's resilience and ability to grow in all conditions.
Nature Finds a Way is a community-minded initiative whose goal is to inform and connect people with an interest in self-sufficiency skills.
We currently hold mushroom-growing workshops in Victoria and are in the process of expanding to share more learning and sharing resources.
Here are some of the topics that will be approached in the future:
From scientific research to real-world applications of environmental technologies,
Greenwashing and environmental misinformation awareness on the wild web,
How to forage responsibly and safety recommendations in the Pacific Northwest?
When is the best time to start growing your own food?
How can one become self-sustainable?
Who can you reach out to when you want to learn about a specific topic?
What can you do to increase climate resilience that is sustainable for yourself long-term?
Hi, my name is Lily. I am a Microbiologist and Environmental Scientist with a passion for self-sufficiency and environmental remediation!
Through my family, I learned early on to forage, farm, harvest, and process my own food, but it was only after moving across the globe to Scotland for university that I started gaining an interest in self-sufficiency.
If it makes sense for the earth, then it makes sense to me.
I started my university's own community garden (The Secret Garden Society) in 2019 with the help of a few friends and kept on learning about where our resources come from through school, jobs, and other environmentally conscious knowledge sharers. Since then, I have become an environmental professional who works on cleaning up freshwater using natural engineered solutions and grows food and community in my spare time.
LifeCycles is a community organization in Greater Victoria that supports the development of a community-led food resilience network; they are an invaluable source of knowledge and joy. The mushroom-growing workshop held by Nature Finds a Way are currently held with LifeCycle at their Welland Orchard twice a year.
Grow Mushroom Canada is a long-time partner of my mushroom-growing ambitions; I first bought a Shiitake log from them in 2018. They are local to Vancouver Island and focused on quality, canadian mushroom growing cultures and supplies. Grow Mushroom Canada has been supporting our mushroom-growing workshops since 2025 and is a wonderful company to work with!
